| Fashion Doll Patterns |
| There are a variety of fashion doll patterns available online and on eBay and also for purchase at Fabric stores through the pattern catalogs. Being a novice seamstress I always wondered if I would be able to make the items offered or even understand the instructions. So, here are some of my successes and horrible flops and what each pattern and instructions look like. |

I do wish the pattern instructions had pictures to help, but I managed to make the pieces with only a few problems without the pictures. Tamara Casey is very friendly and will answer email (address printed on pattern instructions) with any questions. |

| http://dolloutfits.com/ Positive: AMAZING designer Original, unique designs actual photo instructions excellent fit PDF Download/printout available $14.50 ($12.00 if PDF) Very friendly designer who features some of the most unique outfits for dolls. She creates for many different dolls, so there are a few sizes to choose from. Excellent value with many options in one pattern. Photo instructions are good, but would be excellent with more detailed written instructions (i.e. wrong side together, etc) however there is a booklet coming that will explain hard to understand details more clearly. Photo instructions mean a lot of pages to print out but it definitely helps beginners! The pattern pieces are hand drawn, but work very well and are understandable. |

| http://www.affordabledesigns.ca/ Positive: Unique designs for a variety of dolls PDF Download/printout available nicely printed pattern pieces $12.00-$15.00 Great selection of patterns that are beautifully styled and unique. I had a lot of problems with the pattern and instructions, however. The pattern did not fit well, and the instructions are written in cramped paragraph form that was really hard to follow when in the middle of sewing. There are no drawings or pictures and the instructions are quite often confusing for a beginning/novice sewer. Perhaps a more experienced sewer could zip through this pattern and have an excellent fit, but unfortunately that was not the case for me, and I gave up on this pattern. |

http://www.mccallpattern.com/index.htm POSITIVE: Good fit Professionally printed pattern Good instructions Not much variety Cost: 15.95 (currently out of print, but found quite often on eBay at reasonable prices) This pattern offered a good fit on all items, but was a bit difficult for a begining/novice sewer. Most pieces are fully lined which yields professional looking results. It is usually readily available at fabric stores, and is printed on traditional brown (easy to rip) pattern paper, which I dislike. There is no help from anyone if you have a question or need help, (obviously). This pattern is a surprisingly good fit for Ellowyne with no adjustments needed! |

It is fully lined with good instructions. I did get hung up on how the create the lined vent in the back, so I opted to make the coat without it and it still turned out wonderful! Fit is EXCELLENT, pattern pieces are all marked professionally and labeled well to help with assembly. Oriole is readily available through email to answer any questions. New patterns are added periodically and there are free patterns offered on the site as well! |
